Artist Statement:
I attempt to reflect the style, attitude
and abstract beauty that emanates from
a revolutionary music form called Jazz,
an African American invention that has
evolved over four decades to become a
national treasure. Jazz is indeed, the
most widely recognized and respected music
form in the world .I document perspectives
of this art form; I make music using the
paint and brush as my instruments. My
art reflects the classic characteristics
defining the musicians of the late 1940's
and 50's. It is the writers, musicians
and singers of this period who are the
Jazz Vanguard. I always listen to jazz
music while I draw and paint. The music
is complex, abstract and intellectual.
It takes me out of the immediate and creates
and environment for thinking and generating
ideas for my visual compositions.
